Survivor was full of twists and turns this week, most notably, Colton fell ill. Literally. He was on the floor, writhing in pain. Later we find out, he's got acute appendicitis, and Kat admits she has no idea what that means. Kat, poor, simple, uneducated Kat. God love her. Colton made sure his appendix affected everyone in the game by taking the hidden immunity idol with him as a souvenir. Is anyone really surprised?! I'm not! He was all about himself from day one. There was no chance in hell he was going to give immunity to anyone on his team.
Speaking of his team, Alicia, sit the eff down and shut the eff up. Oh my God. You have no idea how terribly you're coming across on the show. Of course Colton didn't give you the idol. He was never going to save you. You turned on Christina and you and Colton were downright cruel to her. It's true, you get what you give. I can't wait for you to get your ass voted off the island.
The ice cream reward was torture for someone who's currently watching their diet. That's all I'll say about that.
I will miss Colton's moments of clarity, although few and far between, but I will not miss his whining and disregard for others. If he comes back for another swipe at Survivor, I just hope he's more mature and less bitchy.

The Wrong Queen
I caught up on Survivor today and OMG, it was awesome. The best two episodes of Survivor I've seen in a long time.
The women finally won some challenges and their morale is up for now. That is, until Alicia decided to get a bee in her bonnet because Kat sort of kind of said she wasn't good at puzzles. Guess what?! She's not!! So not, in fact, that Alicia essentially cost the ladies the immunity challenge. I want this girl gone so bad. She's not at all a team player.
The men are in even more turmoil because Colton is running things. He blindsided Matt - who had it coming in a major way, and now the rest of the men are basically following Colton out of fear. This kid knows what he's doing. However, Colton is no longer my favorite, thanks to his terrible remarks about Leif, who happens to be a little person. Colton threw out every derogatory reference for little people that he could think of, acted like a total brat when Bill confronted him, and then convinced the guys to give up their immunity and go to tribal council. That's right, the men CHOSE to go to tribal after winning the immunity challenge because Colton said so. It seemed he was really upset with Leif for spilling the beans to Bill that he was on the chopping block. Which is not even what Leif said! If you listen, he says that Bill was almost voted out at last tribal. He didn't say anything about the upcoming vote. But Colton was just using the whole Leif thing as a ruse to get Bill out anyway so it really doesn't matter.
And then Colton had to make matters worse by saying some really stupid things about Bill at tribal council and in his interviews. Bill is a black stand up comedian, and Colton thinks he's "ghetto" and "needs to get a real job". Oy vey. Then, he shoved his foot in his mouth some more by saying he's not racist because he has a black housekeeper. OMG. Just shut up now.
Colton needs to control his attitude because he's starting to sound and act just like Matt (who I couldn't stand). He's being arrogant and mean and throwing his weight around. That's not gonna fly for too long. And some one needs to tell Tarzan to zip it - that weirdo just talks out of turn all the time!

Men vs. Women
Survivor is trying men vs. women this season and so far, it is a very, very bad idea. I won't go into all the contestants' names and personalities, because there are just too damn many of them at this point. Suffice it to say, the women are already at each other's throats and the men are still very much united, with the exception of Colton, the token gay guy. I think he's hilarious, and my dad thinks he looks like a Ken doll. I love it! The women love Colton, too, but things are about to turn ugly according to the preview for next week's episode.
The ladies are playing this game all wrong. The guys stole some of their supplies, and instead of playing it cool, they whined and tried to manipulate them when it came time to divide the chickens they had caught. So, then, they thought it would be a good idea to try to steal fire from the guys in the middle of the night, but then they let the fire die out. Stupid stupid stupid. There are a few smart ladies on the tribe but they're being way too quiet. And the obnoxious ones are taking over already. One of the girls, a nice tattooed chick, got hurt during the challenge and went home, so even though the ladies lost, they didn't have to vote anyone out.
My advice for the ladies is to get rid of the loud morons who are trying to run things and start playing smart. Act like everything is fine, and let the guys think you're going to play nice. Then, win as many challenges as possible by working together as a group. Which is asking a lot from a group of women, I know. But it would be nice if they actually did it.
The guys need to embrace Colton as part of the team, or else once the merge comes, he could run away with all the girls' support. It really is too early to tell what's going to happen, but it's pretty clear that the current group of Alpha males needs to make sure there are no divisions in their team in order to stay strong.

The Sole Survivor
Survivor ended on Sunday, and I have to say, I was very disappointed with this season's contestants.
Here's why. Ever since the season started, I was rooting for the newbies. I like the idea of an All Star Survivor, but when veterans come back to play with first-timers, it's not a true Survivor game. It should be an all newbie season or an All Star season, not both.
The season turned out so predictably, it was ridiculous. Ozzy continued to dominate Redemption Island, and got back in the game. He won the first immunity challenge, and Sophie broke down at Tribal when she heard some not so nice things said about her courtesy of Ozzy. I have always liked Sophie - she's smart and sharp, but she can be a bit of a brat at times. However, she's been a lot more tolerable than say, Brandon, Coach, or even Ozzy at times. Does anyone else remember when Ozzy was being a total douchebag?
Anyway, Sophie wins the next immunity challenge, so it's Ozzy's turn to leave and become a part of the jury. Coach had previously told Ozzy that he would take him to the final three, but truthfully, Coach told everyone that. So he stabbed Ozzy in the back and sent him packing, leaving Coach, Sophie, and Albert in the top three.
I noticed that Survivor doesn't do the whole "remember the entire cast" journey thing they used to make the top three do on past finales. I'm not complaining, though.
My favorite part of the finale is always the jury's questions for the finalists. It always makes me laugh how bitter some of them are, and others just say what we're all thinking. But this time, no one really gave us good snark, I have to say.
Albert was really never in the race, the jury just did not care for him. He was actually referred to as "sneaky". It was really between Coach and Sophie. Coach really was the mastermind/puppetmaster this season, but when he was confronted about being deceitful, he apologized and said he was playing to win and lost his spirituality along the way. Sophie made no apologies and took credit for many of the decisions that kept Upolu strong till the end. She really did make the more compelling argument, and it paid off, because the jury decided to give her the million instead of Coach.
Now here's my take on it. Coach certainly was the leader of Upolu, and he convinced his tribe to treat him like some kind of deity. Well, most of them. But, Coach messed up when he didn't own his game. In front of the jury, he should have stood up for himself and said, "Yes, I deceived all of you. You all fell for it. And I deserve to win." And the whole praying/honor/integrity bullshit was just too much. Coach, you need to leave God out of your sorry Survivor game. You didn't win because people can tell you're not sincere.
Sophie, like I said, owned her game, even the social part, which she wasn't so great at, and the jury ultimately respected that.
I wish this season would have gone a different way. In my opinion, Christine had the best strategy of them all, GET RID OF THE VETERANS ASAP! WHY would the tribe keep a veteran around, follow him like a bunch of idiots, and let them get to the final tribal??? You're essentially giving them the million dollars! Just because they can help the tribe initially? Seriously? Just keep them around for the first few challenges, let them build the shelter for you, and then get them OUT. That's just my take on it.
The reunion was kinda lame, they kept talking about Brandon's family being ashamed of his performance, blah blah blah. His uncle Russell turned up to put him down in front of millions of people as well ... nice.
I hate that the reunion only hits on the favorites, and doesn't address the other story points. They should have spent more time talking to Christine, Mikayla, and Stacey. Oh and they just glossed over the whole Whitney/Keith situation, and didn't even MENTION that Whitney was MARRIED when she started her AFFAIR with Keith. Whatever. At least Cochran was entertaining, as usual. I really like him.

So Close
Survivor has been getting really good lately. And the only reason I haven't blogged about it is because I watch it with my family and then I forget to take notes on it.
A lot has gone down. Cochran has flipped over to the old Upolu and has alienated his old Savaii tribe, well, maybe not Dawn, so much, but everyone else from Savaii hates him. But I don't blame Cochran for turning his back on Savaii. Here's how it was going to go - he would have made it a couple more weeks, maybe if he was lucky, sticking with Savaii. They couldn't wait to get rid of him because he wasn't in their alliance to begin with, and neither was Dawn. So he did what he had to do. I don't begrudge him that, and no one else should either. It's really easy to be part of an alliance where you can sit back and be protected while the rest of the tribe gets picked off one by one. But if you're one of the outsiders, when you see an opportunity, you go for it, and that's what Cochran did - and it was a game changer. And Whitney can shut her face because she's just pissed that she's not protected anymore. She actually had the balls to tell Cochran he disgusts her. Well, Whitney, women who cheat on their husbands on game shows disgust me, so suck it. Read this and you'll know what I'm talking about.
Besides, Ozzy needed to get kicked off his high horse anyway. And although I was rooting for Jim, he made a huge mistake not flipping over with Cochran. It's really sad, because Jim is smart, but he's still playing in Ozzy's shadow. He had plenty of chances to get Ozzy out and become the leader, and he never did it. So, in my opinion, he needs to sit down and get out of the way. Anyone who thinks they can win by riding coattails anymore is delusional, at least in my opinion. Those days are over. Or at least they should be.
So, long story short, Keith, Ozzy, and Jim are all at Redemption Island, while Cochran, Whitney, and Dawn are still in it with the former Upolu crew. Coach warns his tribe that Jim was dangerous. Not really, if he was that dangerous he would have ousted Ozzy a long time ago. Cochran jokes that he has to play along with Coach's foolishness so he can stay a few more weeks. I think Cochran needs to keep making major power plays, which may mean getting Albert and Sophie to turn against Coach. That's what I would do.
At the duel, Jim, Ozzy, and Keith compete to stay in the game by holding up poles with the backs of their hands. The two losers are the first two members of the jury. We know none of these three will not be voting for Cochran to win. Jim's the first one out, and the first jury member. Keith is the next one out. Ozzy proclaims that Redemption is the best place for him, since he can sit back, away from all the drama and beat everyone who comes through Redemption. It's a great plan, and I think this will be the only way for Ozzy to win the game. If he does come back in the game, I'd send him right back to Redemption anyway. Better for him to be out of the tribe dynamic and make it clear that he's not the leader anymore. He's better as the outcast anyway. Power does not agree with Ozzy.
Cochran is willing to play with Dawn and Whitney again and try to get them further in the game, but he could choose to let them get picked off by former Upolu, who's now protecting him. In the Immunity challenge, Sophie wins, and I realized, I've underestimated her. I've always enjoyed her on the show, but I would be so happy if she won. That would be awesome. Cochran never had a chance with this challenge, and I wish there were more puzzles or cerebral challenges so he could really shine. It's pretty much decided that Dawn is next to go, and Whitney after her. Dawn says Coach has this loyal following, but I think they're only loyal because they're safe. Once the situation is right, Upolu is going to tear each other to shreds. To hell with that loyalty BS.
Albert wants to secure Savaii jury votes by getting Edna out, which I totally agree with. Albert needs to really step up his game, and he'll become my hero if he's able to blindside Coach. I want to see that happen. Coach sees Albert talking to former Savaii members, and this does not sit well with him. Albert hints to Cochran that he will be taken out in 7th place, which makes Cochran furious. Not only because that's the exact opposite of what Coach said, but because that would mean Edna would make it further in the game, when she hasn't done anything but kiss Coach's ass. Albert takes Cochran to talk to Sophie and she seems to be up for it. Sophie wants to make it to the end, and I think she deserves to. Coach is getting suspicious about Albert, and says that anyone who goes against the tribe will be "dead".
At Tribal Council, Dawn urges the bottom-of-the-totem-pole dwellers on Upolu to join them and shake up the game. Cochran says he's confident that he can do some maneuvering to stay in the game past 7th place. He says he's planning ahead for when there are fractures in the Upolu tribe and says it's the best time to make a big move, a statement which I think is directed to Sophie and Albert. Coach tries to say he's not the leader, and Whitney says he most definitely is. Albert says Coach isn't the leader for him, but maybe he is a figure head for some people who need someone to look up to. Dawn is voted out first, so she goes to Redemption. Wouldn't it be great if Dawn beat Ozzy at Redemption Island? OMG!! Awesome!!
Jeff announces there's another Immunity challenge happening right then and there, which is a series of questions regarding life on the island. Cochran should have won this one, but he was eliminated way too soon. Come on, Cochran! This one should have been yours! Sophie wins again, and I hope she keeps this momentum going. Whitney is voted out and goes to Redemption. Sorry, Whitney, but at least you have Keith to cheat on your husband with!!!
Upolu now has to figure out how they're going to start voting, and I suggest they start with Edna. Coach has it out for Brandon, though.

2 Broke Shows
Whitney, Whitney, Whitney. I know this isn't all your fault. But "2 Broke Girls" isn't what I thought it was going to be. It's better than Whitney Cummings' own show, though. The premise is good. Kat Dennings is super talented. I'll even tolerate the canned laughter. To be fair, I only watched the pilot, maybe the other episodes are better.
The pilot was actually funny, don't get me wrong. But there are really awkward moments and the acting is stiff at times, which really disappoints me. I wanted to like this show so much. Like I said, I haven't seen the other episodes, but I will and I'll definitely let you all know what I think.
One of the reasons I expected so much out of this show was that Michael Patrick King is involved, and he of course created and wrote "Sex and the City". Now, you may argue that some of the writing on that show wasn't exactly spectacular (all of the puns, I know), but it was sharp and funny and cool most of the time.
I think this show needs a lot more "Sex and the City" and a lot less "Whitney". I don't have anything against Whitney Cummings as a stand up comedian, but it seems like she's having a lot of trouble transitioning over to the censored sitcom genre.

Poetic Justice
Survivor is heating up, and it's not just the jungle climate. People are getting mean, and that's exactly what makes this show work.
First, Coach is finally making friends. Especially with "Lil Hantz", Brandon. After confessing that he is, in fact, Russell Hantz's nephew, Brandon went around trying to get everyone to vote Mikayla off the island. You know, because she's a temptation for Brandon. Who's married. And Christian. And apparently has no self control. Let me vent here. Why in the world would Brandon, who's as dumb as a box of rocks, admit that the only reason he wants this girl off the show is that she's pretty and shows off too much of her body? I can just see Russell disowning this kid as we speak. Why would you do that?! Ugh, this kid is so annoying. First of all, he should have LEAD with the fact that he's Russell's nephew and said that he's nothing like him and that he wants to play a different game, get the tribe's sympathy, then he could have done all the sneaky stuff he wanted. He could have played it to his advantage, but sadly, he's just too stupid. Can't wait for him to get voted off.
Semhar, Miss Push Up Bra, prepared for her duel at Redemption Island by reciting a poem about "my honey, my boo" and how she would have 11 kids with this guy. Um, then why don't you go home and do that? This game is not the place for an "arteest" like Semhar. So pretentious, so full of herself. I'm gagging, and not in a good way. This girl is nuts. She loses her duel, and finally leaves the show for good. Halleloo!!
Cochran almost gets booted off again, and I cannot believe he hasn't pulled a classic Survivor blindside against Ozzy. That should have been his first order of business. Ozzy does have the hidden immunity idol, but a power play by Cochran will earn him the respect he so desperately needs from his tribe. Go, Cochran! I'm rooting for you!

It's Gonna Be Great!
I wanted to take some time and talk about the new fall season of scripted shows, there are some that I'm really excited about!
Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FX, Thursdays, 10 pm): This show is not for the easily offended or faint of heart. You need a dark sense of humor to really enjoy this show. The 7th season started with a bang last week. Literally! If you liked the movie Horrible Bosses, you will like this show, which also stars Charlie Day. Charlie is hilarious on this show and in the movie.
Up All Night (NBC, Wednesdays, 8 pm): I really liked the commercials for this show, and I'm a huge Maya Rudolph fan. The first episode was really funny. Christina Applegate and Will Arnett play a couple who are used to being the partying kind until their beautiful baby girl comes along and they have to change their world completely. Will's character is unemployed and stays home with the baby, while Christina's character works for Maya, who plays an Oprah-esque talk show host.
New Girl (FOX, Tuesdays, 9 pm): Again, the first episode had me laughing out loud. This series is centered around the adorable Zooey Deschanel as a young woman freshly dumped and looking for a place to live. She finds an ad on craigslist and ends up moving in with three single dudes (don't try this at home, girls!). The result is a really funny, sweet show, mostly due to Zooey's awesome character. She's quirky and funny and a little weird, but always self-aware and sincere. Check this one out after Glee.
Glee (FOX, Tuesdays, 8 pm): Speaking of Glee!!! I am so excited!! I am a total Gleek and I cannot wait for the season premiere tonight. This season better be amazing - I'm sure it will be.
Two Broke Girls (CBS, Mondays, 8:30 pm): I am looking forward to checking out this new show. I really like Kat Dennings, and Michael Patrick King - creator and writer of Sex and the City - is writing this show along with Whitney Cummings, so I'm excited to see what this show has to offer. Basic premise is Kat plays a waitress in a tough neighborhood and a trust fund heiress whose family has lost all of their money comes to work with her and they become friends and move in together. I can see where it might get a little cheesy, but let's hope they avoid that.
Whitney (NBC, Thursdays, 9:30 pm): I have some reservations about this show. First, I'm not a big fan of Whitney Cummings' stand up comedy, although she is funny. I just have to take her in small doses. Also, the commercials seemed really corny and not funny to me at all. But I'm willing to give this show a chance.
SNL (NBC, Saturdays, 11:30 pm): The first show of the season airs Saturday, September 24th, with Alec Baldwin as the host and Radiohead as the musical guest. I have been a fan of this show since I was 15, and no matter what, I will always watch, I don't care what anyone says. I don't have to love every single sketch, or every single show for that matter, but I am a die hard SNL fan. So I'm definitely excited for a new season.

Survivor is back! And I, for one, am so happy they have a decent cast, well, with a few exceptions.
Please forgive me for not knowing all of the tribe members names just yet but believe me, we'll have plenty of time for that.
Let's talk about the returning players: Coach and Ozzy. Am I the only one who saw the total disappointment on the faces of the Upolu tribe when Coach was assigned to them? Sorry, Coach. They're not buying your whole dragon-slayer-turned-nice-guy routine. On the other hand, the Savaii tribe was elated to have Ozzy, and let's be honest, who wouldn't be? They guy was made for this game.
Now, if Ozzy doesn't win (which he should), here's who I want to win: Cochran. Yes, John Cochran, the 24 year old Harvard Law student, with almost iridescent white skin, who, to me is like the Woody Allen of Survivor. Love it! He's a super fan of the show, hasn't missed an episode, and definitely wants to win. Although he's in awe of the whole situation, and being on the same team as Ozzy, he fought to stay in the game at tribal council and won.
Little Miss Push Up Bra (Semhar) went to Redemption Island instead - seriously, who wears a push up bra with a barely there tank top and short shorts in the jungle? Oh yeah, every single young woman on this show. Seriously, ladies?! You're on Survivor, not the Real World. Every season these girls are wearing less and less, and every season they have some physical challenge where a boob pops out or crack is exposed. Come on, girls! Enough already!
Also on the cast is Russell's nephew who's not telling anyone who his uncle is. But he has his last name tattooed on his shoulder and back. Good luck hiding those ridiculous tattoos, buddy. Oh yeah, and he doesn't like one of the girls on his tribe because she flaunts herself too much. Hmm. Yeah right.
